Take Note

I’m sure you’ve read about CEO Mike Jeffries of Abercrombie & Fitch & his statements: http://elitedaily.com/news/world/abercrombie-fitch-ceo-explains-why-he-hates-fat-chicks/

As well as the response back from Sara Taney: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/sara-taney-humphreys/a-message-to-abercrombies_b_3245941.html?utm_hp_ref=fb&src=sp&comm_ref=false

I felt like I needed to do something myself. So, this past Friday, after walking by Abercrombie while holding my breath & sneering I walked right into American Eagle (I haven’t shopped there in quite some time) and bought a shirt. I made sure to tell the cashier the gist of  why I was there etc. He said I wasn’t the first person to do the same thing. I knew he couldn’t say what he wanted by the look of hesitation on his face, which I respect.

I felt better protesting in my own way. Take note.

Local Film

This was submitted for Dispatch Magazine but didn’t make it in time.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Do you like film? I like film. I really like local film.
This Thursday May 9th gives you two great chances to support local film, don’t miss them.
Maybe it’s because back in good old 2005 (was it really THAT long ago?) I participated in the “Student Picture Show” for my Senior Advanced Production class at USM myself. Or…maybe it’s because it is Kate Kaminski’s last year (she along with Nat Ives have been co-teaching this class since 2003 and by the way are amazing people. If you haven’t had the chance to meet them or take a class with them you really need to. They are both inspiring and helpful and really care about what they do.) Or…maybe selfishly still it’s because new fresh ideas always help make us laugh, think and inspire. Whatever the reason you’ll see my butt there. (WOAH!)
University of Southern Maine’s 9th Annual Student Picture Show is on Thursday May 9th at Talbot Lecture Hall in Luther Bonney on the Portland Campus at 7:15pm. Don’t miss seeing some great familiar actors from the Portland film scene helping out in these films. I know first-hand how with working with a few of them that they will rock your socks off. Plus, I mean let’s be honest– you can’t beat FREE (:
Who doesn’t love the Nickelodeon and more local film?
The 3rd Annual Maine Mayhem Film Festival is set to take place the same day, Thursday May 9th at the Nickelodeon. Corey Norman, co-founder of the fest is hosting the must see event. Senior film students from SMCC as well as former students:  Sean Martin, Tyler Wood, Jimmy Crocco, etc.  have  submitted their work. I have also worked with Corey, Sean, Tyler, Jimmy and a few of the amazing actors you will see here and they are like family. The combination of their talent in writing, directing, acting and production will blow you away. (Minds will be BLOWN)
If you want to get a seat you better hurry, the 7pm showing is already sold out. Fret not; they set up another showing at 9:15pm and at $5 it is a steal.
Both Local film events are to not be missed. I’ve been in as well as watched both events in the past, worked with the directors, actors, host, etc. they’re a group to take notice of.
How does this happen?
Seriously…
How does someone NOT know they have a baby growing inside them?
I joked about it earlier saying: “Wouldn’t you feel them stealing your food” or “Wouldn’t you feel them kicking your ribs?”
Hmm…
This is $12:  3 Razors
This is $8:   2 Razors, A Shaver & holder
So….do you kill the Earth (getting another Shaver & recycling the one you have already EVERY TIME) OR do you pay extra for 3 Razors and feel cheated?
I know it is worse for guys–WTH?!
30-year-term-life
30 is looming..15 days to be precise. I came across this a few years ago and wanted to share it with you. Some of these I can definitely relate to and some I’m not quite there yet.
In 1997, Glamour magazine published a story titled “30 Things Every Woman Should Have and Should Know by the Time She’s 30.” The list, written by Pamela Redmond Satran, was so popular that women started emailing it around, misattributing it to various female luminaries including Maya Angelou and Hillary Clinton. Noting what a phenomenon it had become, the editors of Glamour created a book around it, featuring essays from (mostly) famous women on each of the items on the list.
Turning 30: 30 Things Every Woman Should Have And Should Know
1. One old boyfriend you can imagine going back to and one who reminds you of how far you’ve come.
2. A decent piece of furniture not previously owned by anyone else in your family.
3. Something perfect to wear if the employer or man of your dreams wants to see you in an hour.
4. A purse, a suitcase, and an umbrella you’re not ashamed to be seen carrying.
5. A youth you’re content to move beyond.
6. A past juicy enough that you’re looking forward to retelling it in your old age.
7. The realization that you are actually going to have an old age — and some money set aside to help fund it.
8. An email address, a voice mailbox, and a bank account — all of which nobody has access to but you.
9. A résumé that is not even the slightest bit padded.
10. One friend who always makes you laugh and one who lets you cry.
11. A set of screwdrivers, a cordless drill, and a black lace bra.
12. Something ridiculously expensive that you bought for yourself, just because you deserve it.
13. The belief that you deserve it.
14. A skin-care regimen, an exercise routine, and a plan for dealing with those few other facets of life that don’t get better after 30.
15. A solid start on a satisfying career, a satisfying relationship, and all those other facets of life that do get better.
By 30, you should know …
1. How to fall in love without losing yourself.
2. How you feel about having kids.
3. How to quit a job, break up with a man, and confront a friend without ruining the friendship.
4. When to try harder and when to walk away.
5. How to kiss in a way that communicates perfectly what you would and wouldn’t like to happen next.
6. The names of the secretary of state, your great-grandmothers, and the best tailor in town.
7. How to live alone, even if you don’t like to.
8. Where to go — be it your best friend’s kitchen table or a yoga mat — when your soul needs soothing.
9. That you can’t change the length of your legs, the width of your hips, or the nature of your parents.
10. That your childhood may not have been perfect, but it’s over.
11. What you would and wouldn’t do for money or love.
12. That nobody gets away with smoking, drinking, doing drugs, or not flossing for very long.
13. Who you can trust, who you can’t, and why you shouldn’t take it personally.
14. Not to apologize for something that isn’t your fault.
15. Why they say life begins at 30
This list will make you laugh for sure 🙂
Then at the end there is a trailer for “The Carrie Diaries”–question is..do we want to like this show that shows Carrie Bradshaw pre- “Sex And The City”?
Do we want to ruin it? In the new show “The Carrie Diaries” Carrie is just entering high school–Who’s going to watch this??..Who’s going to feel OK to watch a “high school show” (I’m thinking Dawson’s here) in their mid/late 20’s/30’s and beyond? Will it be pushed towards the women & men (seriously we know you watched it) that watched “Sex And The City” or will it be trying to captivate a whole new group of ladies?
Personally I’m scared. I’m interested —-but I think it will suck.
These will save your life 🙂
I don’t know how many times I’ve handed someone at work one & said, “Vitamin C drops – the good ones are at Hannaford-get some”
I recommend Watermelon or Cherry–watch out for Citrus–
I’ve been told there is a warning label on them.
(Read: if you eat the Citrus ones you will get the craps)
